In October, TEAM & MSCA researcher, Pegah Hafiz, joined other #JigsawHeros and undertook a challenge which scaled many heights in order to raise funds for Jigsaw, a mental health support service for young people aged 12 – 25 in Ireland. Jigsaw is working to create an Ireland where every young person’s mental health is valued and supported.

In June I attended the SICSA (Scottish Informatics & Computer Science Alliance) PhD Conference, which took place at the modern (and very stylish) campus of Robert Gordon University, in Aberdeen. It’s a yearly event which brings together PhD students from Universities all over Scotland, academics and industry practitioners, for 2 days of workshops, keynote presentations and social events.

I had the opportunity to attend the International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services (MobileHCI) from 3rd – 6th September in Barcelona, Spain. It was held at Universitat Pompeu Fabra’s Campus Ciutadella, right at the heart of Barcelona.

I’m about 15 months into my PhD but I am also a runner and about 9 weeks away from a marathon. I enjoy that running gives me a release from my academic work but I can also see a lot of similarities between the two pursuits.

Darragh McCashin and Gianluigi Riva attended a two-day satellite event dedicated to the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) community. This event, held on the 7th & 8th July 2018, saw 200 MSCA fellows gather in Toulouse, France ahead of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF).

Recently I had the opportunity to visit in the 9th European Conference on Positive Psychology (ECPP) in Budapest. It was a 4-day event under the motto "Positive Psychology for a Flourishing Europe in Times of Transition" with 729 participants from 66 countries.

In June I visited Open Lab in Newcastle and presented my TEAM project to the research group. Open Lab is a cross-disciplinary research group in interaction design and ubiquitous computing. I met Janis Meissner and Reem Talhouk at prior conferences. As my research fits well with some of their projects, they suggested to visit them in Newcastle.
